POSSIBLE BENEFITS OF INGESTING YOUR PLACENTA ARE:

  • Increasing lactation

  • Boosting energy levels

  • Warding off postpartum depressive symptoms and anxieties

  • Decreasing postpartum hemorrhaging

  • Augmenting iron levels

DURING THE POSTNATAL PERIOD, SOME BIRTHING PARENTS STRUGGLE WITH:

  • Delayed or diminished milk production

  • Decreased energy

  • Postpartum depressive symptoms and anxiety

  • Hemorrhaging

  • Anemia

Birthing parents may also choose to encapsulate their placenta to honor cultural and familial traditions.

The placenta is the only organ your body makes and then dispels. It has sustained your baby during your pregnancy and can be a source of healing and well-being for you in the postpartum period. Our placenta encapsulation in San Antonio is held to the highest safety and sterility standards to deliver the best quality product to aid in your postpartum healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS?

We turn your healthy placenta into easy to use products of your choice. For encapsulation, we offer vegetarian capsules in unflavored or gelatin berry capsules, tinctures, salve, and keepsakes such as cord dehydration and placenta art prints. All handcrafted to assist you in having a joyful postpartum healing experience.

RAW OR STEAMED?

Steaming prior to dehydration is the traditional method of preparation. The raw method of preparation omits steaming the placenta prior to dehydration. We follow and maintain food-safe temperatures during all processes. Steaming may reduce the total number of capsules.

WHAT ABOUT CORONAVIRUS?

We process placentas at temperatures high enough to kill viruses and bacteria. Respiratory viruses are not contracted through the GI system. All that PPE that was heavily talked about during the start of the pandemic… we ALWAYS look like that when encapsulating! We wear masks, gloves, hair covers, aprons, and gowns.

WHAT IF I AM GBS+?

GBS (group beta strep) is a bacteria pregnant people are tested for, usually in the third trimester. We are comfortable offering placenta services if you are GBS+ and agree to the steam preparation method, where the placenta is steamed to a high enough temperature to kill potential pathogens. We cannot offer the raw preparation method if you are GBS+. Click here for GBS general info. Click here for information about GBS and placentophagy.

WHAT IF I HAVE A MEDICATED OR CESAREAN BIRTH?

Not a problem! If you choose to use pain medications during your birth, or have a cesarean birth, your placenta can still be encapsulated for you.

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE MY PLACENTA AT HOME?

As long as your placenta has been properly stored, you have options.

WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH SAY?

Placentophagy (consuming one’s placenta) is currently not an evidence-based practice. This isn’t because it has been proven to be dangerous or unhelpful, it’s because there isn’t a body of evidence to say much about it at all. There is a growing amount of research, and we look forward to future publications! Below are some links to information about placentophagy you may find helpful.
